Uplift Behavior of Pipelines Buried at Various Depths in Spatially Varying Clayey Seabed

چکیده

The behavior of buried offshore pipelines subjected to upheaval buckling has attracted much attention in recent years. Numerous researchers have made great efforts investigate the influence different soil cover depth ratios, strengths and pipe-soil interfaces on failure mechanisms bearing capacities during pipeline uplift. However, spatial variability been relatively limited. To address this gap, a random small-strain finite element analysis conducted reported paper evaluate distribution strength pipe uplift response. validity numerical model was verified by comparison with results presented previous literature. variation simulated field. effect mechanism determined comparing displacement contours each realization. Probabilistic analyses were performed capacity obtained series Monte Carlo simulations, relationship between probability safety factor also determined. findings present work might serve as reference for designs pipelines.

Uplift resistance of buried submarine pipelines: comparison between centrifuge modelling and full-scale tests

A buried pipeline can buckle upwards if there is not enough resistance to movement. Both the uplift resistance (the maximum force per unit length) and the mobilisaion distance (the distance the pipeline has move before the maximum force is reached) are important in design. Tests on pipes in several soils were carried out at 1 g at full scale and in a centrifuge at 10 g and 1/10 scale. A compari...

Pipeline upheaval buckling in clayey backfill using numerical analysis

Offshore pipelines used for oil and gas transportation are often buried to avoid damage from fishing activities and to provide thermal insulation. Thermal expansion and contraction of the pipeline during operation can lead to lateral or upheaval buckling. A safe buried pipeline design must take into account a reliable evaluation of soil uplift resistance and pipe embedment depth. While the cost...

Detection of Bending Stresses in Buried Pipelines

When gas or oil pipelines must be laid through sand or permafrost or other unstable soils, the pipe walls can he subjected to large bending loads if the soil shifts. In order to detect this condition and correct it, it would be useful to monitor the state of stress along the pipeline'at regular time intervals using a vehicle that is moved through the line by the fluid or gas in it. The experime...

A SURVEY ON THE EFFECT OF SOIL COMPOSITION IN CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF CATHODICALLY PROTECTED BURIED PIPELINES UNDER AC INDUCED CONDITION

Abstract: Due to the expansion of high voltage Alternating Current (AC) power transmission lines and cathodically protected buried pipelines, it is becoming more and more difficult to construct them with enough safe distances between them. Thus, the pipelines are frequently exposed to induced AC interferences, which result in perturbation of Cathodic Protection (CP) due to AC corrosion. To s...

Testing of Buried Pipelines Using Guided Waves

Introduction The inspection requirements of pipes that have an operational history of many tens of years have lead to the adoption of new maintenance practices and safety standards. The solution currently considered as best maintenance practice is the direct assessment of 100% of the pipelines with the minimum possible economical impact. The use of RBI (Risk Based Inspection) methods and the in...
